Back Seat Navigator iOS Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 20, 2022

Back Seat Navigator does not collect or store personally identifying information. When you first install and launch the app, you will be asked to allow Back Seat Navigator to access your location. Clicking the “Allow While Using App”, “Allow Once”, or “Allow” buttons enables the app to send your latitude and longitude coordinates to the Mapbox servers each time a user searches for an address or the navigation functionality has begun. The app requires your current location for driving directions to occur. None of the information sent to the Mapbox servers is personally identifiable.

On iOS 13 and iOS 14, you are only given the choices: “Allow While Using App” and “Allow Once”. While the app should work properly in the background even though explicit permission hasn’t been given, you will see a blue notification at the top of the screen indicating that the app is getting your current location while it is closed. This is expected. Once you use and close the app for the first time, iOS 13 and iOS 14 will offer you the ability to “Keep Only While Using” or to upgrade to “Change to Always Allow.” Regardless of the option you choose, the information sent to Mapbox is the same and is not personally identifiable. If you choose the “Allow Once” option, you will be asked to allow the app to access your location each time you use the app.

Back Seat Navigator uses AppLovin and its supported partners to display ads. The ads use the advertising identifier, combined with the device location to display interest based ads to users. The information transmitted to the ad servers includes: launch timestamps, interactions, view times, click behavior, and crash logs. The ads may additionally transmit device information that includes: device make, device model, and carrier information (where available). You device IP address may be used to estimate the general location of the device. The information is anonymous and cannot be used to identify Back Seat Navigator users.

Back Seat Navigator conforms to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you live in the European Union (EU), you will be presented with an automatic in-app option to opt out of interest based ads.

If you live outside of the European Union (EU) and would like to opt out of interest based ads, you can do so in the Privacy section of the device Settings app. iOS provides a "Limit Ad Tracking" setting on iOS 13 and a “Personalized Ads” setting on iOS 14. When you have opted out of interest based ads using the settings on the device, MoPub and its partners will not use in-app information collected from that device to infer your interests or serve ads to that device that are targeted based on your inferred interests. Please note that while opting out limits the collection of information to serve you ads based on your inferred interests, it does not prevent you from receiving ads from AppLovin or third parties. For further information, please review AppLovin’s Privacy Policy.

Back Seat Navigator includes In-App Purchases and Subscriptions. Payment will be changed to your iTunes account once you confirm the purchase or subscription. The Purchase option allows you to own the app outright. Once purchased, no other purchase is necessary and the purchase never expires. The Subscription options automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current subscription period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current subscription period. Automatic renewals will cost the same price you were originally charged for the subscription. You can manage your subscriptions and turn off auto-renewal by going to your Account Settings on the App Store after subscription. Once a subscription expires, ads will be shown and drives will be limited to 10 per month.

The Mapbox SDK uses telemetry to collect anonymous data about the device location. This information is used to continuously update and improve the maps and navigation instructions in Back Seat Navigator. If you would like to turn of Mapbox Telemetry, you can:

  1. Open the app.

  2. Click the information icon at the bottom right corner of the map.

  3. Select Mapbox Telemetry from the list.

  4. Select Stop Participating
