What The Forecast?!! for Android

What The Forecast?!! is now live for Android!  Unfortunately, because Google's search algorithms suck, it is very hard to find the app on the Play Store.  If you search for "What The Forecast?!!" or "WTForecast" the app either isn't listed or is so far down in the list, it never shows up.

Here is the direct Play Store link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.williamking.whattheforecast

If you have friends who are waiting for this app, please send them the link directly.  I've been told that the app will appear once more people download it, but this is ridiculous logic since no one can find it to download it in the first place.

Initial Android Beta

The Android app is done and ready for testing!  OK, so it's not completely done, but the app is working and I want to start beta testing while I'm still developing the final touches to version 1.0.1.  It you are interested in participating, please send me your gmail email account.  My email is nightcatprod@gmail.com.  I will add you to the testers list and send you the link.

There is a very good chance that some of the features in the app won't work, but I'm actively developing as we speak.  The initial iOS app was very different than the current version when it was first released.  I will quickly add features over the next few months after the Android app is released.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement. I appreciate it!

Quick Update

Just a quick update on the Android app.  It is almost ready for testing.  I have a few more minor data issues that need to be fixed and I need to add the ability to add locations, but other than that, I think it is almost ready to go.

I apologize that I haven't been able to respond to everyone.  Please know that I do read the comments and I'm just busy.  I really can't wait to be done with the initial version of What The Forecast?!! for Android!

Note: Like the initial iOS version (from 2015), the Android version will start off as more simple weather app without all of the functionality that the current iOS app has.  I just wanted to get it out quickly now without being delayed further.  That said, all of the sayings are currently in the Android version and will be available from day 1.  Each update will bring additional functionality until both apps are virtually identical.

Again, I apologize for the delay!  Thank you for being patient.

I have to apologize to everyone about Android

I really should have managed everyone's expectations regarding the Android version of What The Forecast?!! a bit better than I have and for that, I apologize.  I'm still working on the Android version and have made some progress in the last few weeks.  However, it is still a slow process and it is delayed more than I like.  Unfortunately, I don't have a predicted release date yet.

I'm an iOS developer who is learning Android and working on What The Forecast?!! at my kitchen table in my spare time.  I wish I had a company with a slew of developers, but at this point, it's just me.  I'm looking into paying someone to do it, but as of yet, I haven't found anyone who is reliable and has the skills the app requires.

I totally understand if you want to kick me.  I would want to kick me too.  Just don't do it too hard, because that's not very nice.  I will definitely try to keep more regular updates on the progress.  Lately, I've been so swamped by the iOS version emails that a lot of times, I just forget to update this website.

Stay tuned!  I'm shooting for the first part of this year for a release.  I just wish I could nail down a more concrete date.  For that, I apologize!

Happy New Year!!!

Hopefully, you all had a wonderful New Year.  I'm excited to put 2016 behind me, but I'm eagerly anticipating 2017!  What The Forecast?!! was downloaded over 148,000 times...which sort of blows my mind!  I couldn't have reached those numbers without all of you sharing and reposting the app.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Now...the next step is to finish the Android version which is currently hovering at about 65% finished.  This is where I will be putting all of my effort this year.  Thank you for being patient.  I hope to have something for testing soon...

Quick Update

I finally got around to purchasing some devices for testing.  Developing on phone/tablet simulators only gets you so far.  The What The Forecast?!! Android app is coming along and is now pulling actual weather, but I still have a bunch of things to add.  My goal is to create a working app and then add features to it slowly.  That should enable me to introduce the app a little earlier.

As always, if you are interested in testing a preproduction version (it will have all of the phrases that the iPhone app has on day one), drop me a line and let me know!  Thank you.

I apologize...

...for being such a crappy blogger.  I really just forget to say stuff, don't want to say stuff, or am just too lazy to say stuff...  All in all, it just means I'm a totally crappy blogger.

I just wanted to post a quick update to the Android app.  I'm working on it now and even have a screenshot to prove that something is definitely happening.  Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in the project!  I really appreciate it and hope to have something in the next few months.  I wish it was happening more quickly, but programming can be a slow process (and I'm dumb).  As soon as I have something that is working reliably, I will let everyone know.  I would love to get help testing the app once It's ready.

Thank you!!

What The Forecast?!!, Version 2.1.5

It was brought to my attention that the last version of What The Forecast?!! was broken and only showed one weather saying when profanity was set to "Some."  This version fixes that annoying issue.

If you happen to see something that doesn't seem quite right to you, please don't hesitate to email me at nightcatprod@yahoo.com.  I'm always looking to make this app better with each submission.  I take all suggestions and complaints seriously!!

I'm a little behind on updating this blog.  What The Forecast is now on 1.4.1 and 1.5.0 should be submitted today!  It has been a bit of a wild ride over the last two weeks.  The app has now been downloaded over 3500 times all over the world.

The new version will include the following items:

- You can now change the color of the text (KAPOW!!).
- Wind speed and direction are now on the main view (Because why wouldn't they be?)
- New sayings (Including awesome and funny user submitted sayings).
- The precipitation icons now reflect the intensity of the precipitation.
- Minor bug fixes.

What The Forecast?!!, Version 1.1 is now available.

I realized when I changed the name of the app from BS Weather to What The Forecast?!!, all of the in-app links to the App Store also changed, making getting to the App Store from inside the app harder.  Apple was able to quickly review the app and it is now available!!  This update includes:

- A wind turbine that changes speed depending on how hard the wind is blowing outside.  Wind turbines are cool, right?!

- New phrases.  There are now over 2500 phrases for all weather conditions and there will be even more in the near future.

- The App Store links have been corrected.

- Minor bug fixes.

If you like the update and want to tell everyone, don't forget to go to the store and leave a review!  I really appreciate all the help I can get.

BS Weather is now called What The Forecast?!!

Unfortunately, Apple has rejected the BS Weather app on two counts.

A.  BS Weather implies profanity and that is not allowed under Apple's submission guidelines.  After reaching out to Facebook friends, I've decided to change the name to What The Forecast?!!, or WTF.  Hopefully, that will fly...

B.  Some of the screenshots I included with the app submission had the naughty words starred out.  Apple suggested that these non-words also implied profanity and violated their submission guidelines.

I've resubmitted the app and hope to receive an app approval notice soon.

As an aside, I recently discovered some other obnoxious weather apps in the iOS app store.  I didn't download them until What The Forecast?!! was nearly complete, mainly because I didn't want to be accused of copying.  The two apps are called Effing Weather and The Effing Weather.  Somehow BS Weather implies profanity while Effing does not...  I don't understand.  I thought the word 'Effing' ONLY implied profanity...without actually being profane.

Working to unobtrusively add iAds in BS Weather

I'm starting to get excited about the prospect of finally releasing BS Weather to the U.S. iOS App Store!  One of the final steps is to integrate an ad network so that I can release the app for free to users.  The plan is to eventually add in-app purchases to the app to remove ads for a nominal fee.  I'm hoping the addition of an ad network will successfully offset the cost of the weather service.  I'm currently leaning towards Apple's iAds because AdMob ads are not allowed in apps deemed offensive by Google...which BS Weather certainly is.
